I have noticed the teacher using many strategies to
actively engage students. She has used: with-it-ness, feedback, closure,
overlapping, questioning frequency, equitable distribution, and prompting. Here
are examples I observed in the classroom for these terms.
While the teacher is conducting a reading group she knows
what is happening in the class including noise level to misbehaving behavior
and what students are working on. The teacher had me follow up with students having
a low grade on their math test, giving them a chance to review and understand
the material. After giving a lesson on division, the teacher asked “What do you
do after subtracting?” The teacher moved closer to Lexi while continuing her
lesson to the class to discourage her behavior. The teacher asked twenty-one
questions during her conversation with the class on pre-revolutionary war.
While asking questions to the class, the teacher picked Popsicle sticks with their
names on them to answer.
These strategies are very effective because they help the
children feel positive about what they are learning as well as how they are
corrected.
